Mouse Slayer

I've considered changing the name of my blog. My sil, attack of the mouse, has been offering suggestions. I love her blog name but am not quite sure how she came up with it. Well do any of you have any suggestions on ridding ourselves of a mouse or two. Infreakingdeedio... we have mice. I saw the first one Monday night while trying to sail through disc 1 of Lost (Season 2). That scurrying little mouse kinda ruined it for me. I hate mice! I had to turn off the show and set the traps. Glue traps. Yep, that's what I use. I had that ole thing trapped by morning. DH calls me the Mouse Slayer. Tuesday night... same thing. I'm trying to plow through disc 2. Dang! Out of the corner of my eye, I see another rodent scurring past. Stop the show. Set more traps. Unfortunately, no luck. I haven't been able to catch him yet but I'm not giving up. I will get him. Well, anyway. What's your best mouse trapping tip?

  1. I am sorry, I don't have any mouse trapping tips -- but I wanted to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE Lost!!! I am so excited for the new season!

Hope you catch that little guy soon!

  2. When we had mice (years ago!) my mom would put out that DeCon...mouse poison...but I don't know if I'd recommend it...the mice would die, but they'd be foaming at the mouth in the middle of the floor. My mom, who DESPISES mice, would make US (her kids) retrieve the dead mice and throw them away! ICK!
I have a friend who swears by those spring loaded mouse traps...using chocolate chips as bait!
Good luck! I hate mice too! *shivers*

  3. We had a mouse or two in Indy. Who really knows how many you have - my grandmother used to say, "if you see one you know there are 1,000 more where that one came from". I'm sad to report, we never caught it (them). Because we were renting I had the maintencs crew come and they put foam in places that they could be coming in and out of. One place was behind my oven there was a hole in the wall about 4 inches in diameter. I think the mouse was traveling in between apartments and was at my neighbors house when we blocked it's path to our house. My neighbor boys told me their mom caugh a couple of mice. (sorry neighbors.) We had an exterminator come once a month to keep our place bug free. (Get a picture of him - only 5 feet tall, probally an extra 50-75 pounds overweight, wearing tan shorts and shirt with knee pads on, a hard hat and a metal can full of pesticide.) I was visiting with him about our rodent problem, (I couldn't sleep at night - thinking of how fast they reproduce). His recommendation was the spring traps with just a little bit of peanut butter on them. We never did catch anything on our 10 traps we set out, but from the expert - that's what you're suppose to do. Good Luck. I am so sorry to hear about you mice, I will pray for them to want a taste of your bait and find a happy home in the traps. I feel your pain.

  4. 1. Get a cat.
    2. Provide water but no food. Folks will tell you that a cat NEEDS food, but trust me, whenever we had a cat we never had mice as the cat's only source of food was to hunt. Hunt mice, bugs (sorry about the butterflies though), lizards, pretty much any thing. One cat, Googiewhump, was exceptionally gifted as a hunter and brought home bats, rabbits, mice, grasshoppers, and birds(again sorry 'bout that).

When we got rid of the cat(s), we got mice. Step one was the glue traps diligently placed and checked. (unfortunately we caught Thor several times) It took a couple of weeks before I felt "safe".

We now have two strays that attached themselves to our property. We don't feed them, but we leave water and we don't shoo them away. And we don't have mice.
